Hello
I'm Dr. Erica James Young, a licensed counseling psychologist and certified perinatal mental health provider. I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges and achieve their personal goals. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the Interpersonal Process, which focuses on the importance of relationships and the impact they have on our well-being. To address factors such as negative thoughts and self-defeating behaviors, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, which are effective in fostering positive change and enhancing mental health. I am committed to seeing the whole person through a Multicultural Lens, ensuring that our work together is inclusive and respectful of your unique background and experiences. I look forward to supporting you on your journey to well-being and personal growth.
My Story
I am a teacher and therapist both at heart and by trade. I worked for nearly a decade as a psychology professor teaching undergraduate students and training graduate students into future providers. Throughout my time as an educator, I found that teaching shaped me into a stronger clinician and I take pride in teaching clients the skills they need to foster a healthier way of being. I am a licensed Counseling Psychologist with nearly 15 years of experience providing therapy and psychological assessment services. I have extensive experience with treating common mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, as well as providing assessment services for a variety of presenting concerns including but not limited to: intelligence and achievement (learning disabilities), ADHD, and socio-emotional assessment for mental health disorders (depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bipolar and other related disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, trauma, and personality disorders). I have a special interest in working with adolescents and adults; however, I welcome clients from across the lifespan. I provide therapy services for adolescents and adults utilizing a Multicultural Therapy lens to employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques and Interpersonal Process Therapy with my clients. I have a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. I received a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from Francis Marion University after obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the College of Charleston.
In my free time, I enjoy biking, pizza night, and spending time outdoors with my husband and two sons. I also enjoy visiting with family and friends as much as possible.
